I will never forget the Board of Education meeting that I attended in which newly elected members, Carl Fink, Chesky Seitler and Isaac Zlatkin proudly sat on the board. As promised, they had begun to try to pass their agenda of cost cutting measures. They were firing teachers, and other employees that they felt were no longer needed. Of course many of those being fired were there to protest. Some had been devoted teachers for many years, and many explained that the loss of their job will put them in severely financial straits. I remember being shocked at the indifference on the face of Carl Fink and Chesky Seitler. After all the discussion about trimming the budget, Carl Fink asked a question from the Township Attorney. "Are we getting medical insurance?" Michael Inzelbuch rolled his eyes, while those attending the meeting began to hiss, and laugh out loud. Here was a group saying how they were dedicated to reducing the school budget responsibly, asking about a personal perk for themselves.
Fast forward two years later. After approving an exorbitant rental agreement for their ofices, playing power games with special ed providers, ignoring public school student's needs, bringing negative media attention to a school board that is mostly controlled by the Orthodox Community. Now to add insult to injury, they are buying themselves IPADS!! It is not bad enough that most of them sit there texting throughout meetings, now perhaps they want to be able to play ANGRY BIRDS during those long sessions as well. Or maybe they have to keep up with their bids on EBAY for discount school supplies. Forget about the fact that nine IPADS should not cost NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS. Are they going to be allowed to take these IPADS home with them? Will their families be enjoying all the fun things you can do on an IPAD when they are not sitting on the table at board meetings? Will they come preloaded with the new IPAD Artscroll Talmud? Who will pay for the Apps and games? Do they need to get an ishur from their Rabbi? Will they have to have a filter?
Too bad we can't put a filter on the entire Board of Ed to remove such selfish acts while pretending to try to save the taxpayers their hard earned money.

How are the funds being taken from 192/193?
My basic knowledge of being a law abiding citzen is that 192/193 is funds for NON PUBLIC "Children" to get serives how did this get approved?

There is an obvious typo in the Agenda Item. There will be 1 I-Pad per BOE Member.
Having sat on many boards, I know the difficulty in maintaining current computer hardware and software, for use in a volunteer position that has high expectations.
Do not get me wrong on this issue. There can be no payments for volunteers, but there should not be an expense to volunteers either. Taxpayers demand transparency, responses to questions, press releases, and good internal and external communications. This can be accomplished if BOE members have the use of equipment that enables same.
The I-Pads will be the property of the Lakewood School District, assigned to each BOE Member, very much the same as computer equipment is made available to employees and students. The district owns the equipment.
The BOE member will be responsible for the equipment, and will be required to return the I-Pad upon the completion of service on the BOE, or upon request of the District.

Was @ BOE last week, speaking to some of my non jewish friends that are employed there. 3 words: SEVERE CHILLUL HASHEM. quotes such as "these dirty board members in white shirts and black pants, filthy looking heartless beasts". Perhaps BMG should have a social skills class.

Recently, on one of the tv shopping channels, the newest, latest, best ipad was being sold for just under $1,000.
So, 9 boe members times $1,000 equals $9,000.
Wow, Sunday's APP did something very unusual. For the first time, they printed their EDITORIAL on the front page. They were condemning Gov. Christie's visit to SCHI, while he ignores the problems in the public school system. I guess the APP didn't see the recent BOE agenda, where each member will receive an iPad, at cost of $1,000 each.
Board President Fink has written a very powerful letter to the Governor, as well, re. his visit to SCHI.
