The largest yeshiva institution in the united states decided to forbid the use of Internet in all cases except for business in which case a filter approved only by the yeshiva may
be used. We would like to hear the reaction from BMG students. Unless there are no more on the Internet.
Okay 300 a month
40 dollars a month for internet
Do you think its gonna make a difference in the kollel check
"Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one."
Take the 80 percent that don't learn and give them internet to fundraise for b m g money making machine
Please explain the definition of a business
Ripping off everyone from there hard working tax payer money is that considered okay to have internet or does it have to be a legit business without shtick.
Please find a donor that will pay internet access so that they can go and make a living
Can someone explain to me how they're going to verify if someone has internet or not
Is cablevision going to give them a list of everyone who has internet?
Maybe they should hire 15 private investigators
you missed the boat no blackberrys or iphones for any yungerman wife or kidz
"The only exception is when the Internet is needed to earn a living"
So it's a complete ban in Lakewood. ;)
What are they afraid of? Banning the internet will not teach our young people how to properly use this incredible tool. Education is necessary. (moderated) and opinion will always be available to our children. Raising them with the proper decision-making skills is how we win this war. Shame!
No more internet for me!!
Does this apply to Aron Kotler? Will he give uo his iPhone?
Many yungerlite are making money by getting credit cards with airline miles. You need Internet to get the credit cards, so the shaylah is can you have the internet just for the C cards, provided your wife will watch over you, and you only use the yeshivas filter which has a zero tolerance for blogs.
The internet was here 10 years ago. The frum blogs were not. Why now? Think about it.
they should have a internet area only outside of BMG building like Smoking zone that you find at shopping mall / airport
Who in their right mind doesn't think this will backfire?
You can use the I-phone for shidduchim only if the girl is older then the boy, or the father wears a blue shirt and green crocks, as long as he has more than 10 million cash, and he buys a new boat for yeshiva for the next big asifa.
The day shankey, ahron kotler, weisberg, pollock, and the yeshiva offices both in lakewood and ny drop their internet is the day I will drop my internet and join bmg kollel.
An educational Institution has every right to set the standards to be eligible for acceptance to its student body. If they want to set a high threshold and you feel its too difficult for you - then you're welcome to be a student elsewhere. Frankly, it makes a lot of sense to me.
I hate anybody telling me what to do, even if it's a private institution. I am my
own Rov and Posek.
I have heard that the main concern they have with the internet is the trouble it causes them, eg: Mandelbaum's letter, the recent boe elections etc...
Yes, I agree, this mkaes alot of sense. It's their own private institution, and if you don't like it - go open up in Sloatsberg.
can anyone tell me whats the name of this new Kollel opening up in Lakewood that will accept all those yungerleit that plan on keeping internet?
I heard that the only hakpodah they will have is that everyone must vote the opposite that bmg endorces.
Is the Yeshiva going to put its filter on the computers in Lakewood Library, or are they finaly going to aser the library too?
What a big joke. When will someone teach the Rosh Hayeshiva/Mashgeiach that their Takanos are ignored?
I don't know of one yungerman who will say; "hey bmg just said I have to throw out my smart phone - so I guess I will".
Every new ban that comes out is completely ignored.
Every new ignored ban teaches the world that nobody listens to them.
Every new ban takes away from their credibility.
Instead of another ignored ban, it would be wiser NOT to make an ignored red line - but rather to continuously speak and cry about the dangers and to utilize self-common sense approaches, which actually might be listened to - if it comes from the heart.
Because nobody is listening to a ban.
Just some common sense.
The last election was lost because of information spread on the web......
this very disturbing, when you have those who want to control the thoughts and what people can and cannot see you are knocking on the door of how dictatorships control their populations
Oh and to add to my last comment to those who think this is good , you will loose more of your followers by thinking you can control what they see, you live in America not some third world country where this is how they opperate
Quote "An educational Institution has every right to set the standards to be eligible for acceptance to its student body. If they want to set a high threshold and you feel its too difficult for you - then you're welcome to be a student elsewhere. Frankly, it makes a lot of sense to me."
yes they can set standrds but that is not what this is they are trying to control people which is not acceptable to anyone who lives in the USA . Do you have any idea what this country is about FREEDOM OF SPEECH, FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
when a group of people try to undermine those concepts no matter private or not that is NOT ACCEPTABLE ~~~~ W A K E U P you live in the 21century in AMERICA
Perhaps they concerned that are many more "Westgate Moms" deep down inside of us all. You are all a bunch of kids gone wild because your not under your Tatty`s watch anymore a bunch of bored NY Jews who don`t really care about anything but belching & kvetching. Nebbach all of that tuition that your parents spent down the tubes. They could & should have sent you to public school. You would have gotten an education & been reminded that you are Jewish
Take heart; you are winning. Even communist countries were unable to ban and/or restrict the internet, When repressive dictates are presented as "It is good for you" it is generally not the case.
Knowledge and information are the basis of freedom. These elements do not threaten religion or religious belief, they enable people to make decisions that they believe are best because they are well informed. Herds go along without knowing the facts. Free men and (women) are naturally inquisitive, do not like being told what to do, and will seek the best information and/or data that is available.
Does that mean my news source - TLS - will be taken away?
Banning the internet is the most effective way to deal with all our problems! Banning the sale of alcohol in the United States completely solved the problems caused by alcoholism. No liquor was consumed by anyone during the Prohibition era. (except for U.S. Senators, Congressmen, Federal & State Judges, and of course liquor was served in the White House to entertain foreign dignitaries, but these were minor exceptions which don't really count).
But Prohibition was repealed, and liquor flows freely now. See how alcoholism has increased since then? Now even Jews are having drinking problems. We must bring back Prohibition. Al Capone, where are you when we need you most?
We can also take a lesson from the war on drugs. Since the United States has instituted harsh penalties for the sale and use of narcotics drug abuse has completely disappeared in this country. Finished, no more problem. Nobody dares to sell drugs anywhere, and certainly not in Lakewood (with the exception of you know who).
Since narcotics have been prohibited no one would even think of using recreational drugs (with the exception our esteemed President Obama, who by his own admission had his share of fun in his not so distant youth, but one swallow does not a summer make).
So I would like to congratulate the Roshei Yeshivah for taking this bold but necessary step in order to eliminate this scourge from our midst. I am certain they will meet with the same success that the United States did in solving its alcoholism and drug addiction problems.
To 8:37 am
I am not in kollel. I'm working for an number of years. After hearing the new takonos, I called my service provider and canceled internet on my phone.
Yes, I know someone will have something snarky to say about the fact tham I'm posting here. I'm working on that too, as R Wachsman said, getting up from the 49th sharrei tuma doesn't happen overnight

Rubber Ducky Filter Experiences Toll Free Number Glitch following Massive Citifield Response
R' elyashiv said when they made the anti internet asifa years back that NO BAN , banning doesn't work! He told the mashgiach recently the same that is why they came up with "u can't live with it , u can't live w/o it"
read the sign with the new Takonos careful. As I read it (see # 3), ONLY a yeshiva approved technician can install a filter on your computer. i bet the KGB I mean BMG will include spyware to see if you read the Lakewood View. If you do, it is out of Yeshiva for you.
LOL i like how the roshei yeshiva live under such a rock. they can dream on. this world is evolving into a cyber world and most people arent getting rid of it so fast.
Rubber Ducky, like many other companies selling "their own" solutions is reselling someone else's copy-cat filter and email by the month. NativUSA is another similar example with over-priced products on their website that don't even exist yet. ALL OF WHICH YOU CAN GET FOR FREE. Like K9 or OpenDNS or free email at Gmail, etc. Watch out for the "Kosher" snake-oil. Get educated about what's out there. Don't get ripped off by "approved" vendors. If they wanted to really help you instead of themselves they would advise you, as any honest IT person would. Next will be a ban on any filters other than "?" or "?". !!!!!!!
Rubber Ducky is re-selling you an free open source webmail client, RoundCube, hosted on their servers to give you an email address. They would have to GUARANTEE that you will not get SPAM emails which is not foolproof by any stretch against inappropriate content. No SPAM filter is.
I am not in Yeshiva, and haven't been for many years. I will be installing (iy"h) a filter in my home and the office. I will also get rid of my blackberry. I will go back to the old days when I enjoyed spending time with people and especially my lovely family, instead of my head and brain in the balckberry 24/7. To me this asifah was a huge success. Thank you to all who pulled it off.
RubberDucky (frumweb.net) is owned my Matzav and is less than a year old. The contact email belongs to David Makowsky who doesn't even use the company's own served email, RoundCube, according to the site registration. He uses Gmail. This is all public information. NativUsa's registration is private and so is eNativ's which is the "parent" filter company with it's base in Israel.
When Reb Noson Zvi Z"L banned phones in the Mir, amany broght their phones to him in his office. That was Reb Noson Zvi. Chaval al di avdin, etc
You said iy right "CONTROL", That's what it's really all about.
If the're still collecting gov. grants on your behalf, then your still in BMG with your internet.
"Control" that's what's talking...
Who will listen to them, Ha ha
Reguarding the last #5, "You can't be COUNTED in as a bmg guy", I don't think that Aaron agrees with that.
Can someone tell me what is so special about bmg in the first place?
what does bmg offer to students that no other institute can offer?
what will bmg do if it realizes a drastic down size at a rate of 25% per year?
what will bmg do if 1 day there is a parallel kollel of the same size that will supersede it in this same town Lakewood?
eizehu chacham haroeh es hanolad!
thats that you shouldnt be able to read this blog must put the filter that they control
do you really think anyone would have the guts to try and compete with bmg?
Anyway they're kollel check is pennys mamish ($320 monthly, whole day). Why don't the olam get up and go to a real paying kollel.
